PMU-Based Cable Temperature Monitoring and Thermal Assessment for Dynamic Line Rating

The aim of this paper is to present a novel phasor measurement unit (PMU) data-based cable temperature monitoring method with an intended application towards facilitating dynamic line rating. First part the presents estimate and track 3-phase segment. benefit that no additional sensors are required be placed along cable. based on algorithm which gives accurate resistance estimates for segments even in presence random bias errors grid measurements. performance demonstrated by utilizing data from PMUs distribution grid. results show capable up accuracy ±5 °C. later system utilize given predict thermal state forecasted power-flow scenarios.
